Stepping Off Life's Emotional Roller Coaster
As you are on this journey to becoming an ARTIST, you will inevitably experience a roller coaster of emotions. Excitement at the idea of a beautiful future, but also at times a feeling of overwhelm and sadness because you are, maybe for the first time confronting what is really in front of you.
This is normal.
Having a great outlook on life is earned. Strange thing to say, but it’s true. Look back at what we’ve learned so far. Everything without exception depends on you deciding to look at it or confront it or apply it. The common denominator is YOU.
Pretty cool, eh?
Now, saying you want to live a happy life doesn’t mean you can’t experience other emotions. We lose people we love. We make mistakes. We trust people we shouldn’t. We buy the wrong mascara. LOL. We are lazy when we should be busy.
Being happy is earned because we have looked our mistakes, errors, and bad choices in the eye and decided that those were OUR mistakes, errors and bad choices. Did we pick the wrong partner in romance or business? Were we too busy to listen to our kids? Did we just not show up when opportunity was ripe? We all make mistakes and we suffer. But there is a bigger question here.
How long are you willing to be the effect of the mistake? How long are you willing to experience that painful emotion?
You can get sad. It’s okay. The question is how long are you going to remain sad?
You can get angry. That’s okay. The question is how long are you going to remain angry?
This is important.
Will these emotions become your life?
Yes, life is filled with emotions. We do want to feel and be connected to each other and to life. That is how we know we are alive! We want to feel love and loss. We get to feel angry and sad! Every emotion exists to be experienced! The question is again, whether or not we get stuck in them.
People tell us that all the time. Move on. Get over it. But how?
Well, I’ll tell you how I do it!
1. I recognize that I’m still feeling the emotion long after whatever I would consider is an
appropriate time to do so.
2. I take responsibility for my part in the experience that created the emotion. Sometimes it
means I have to do something like apologize or say, "Yeah, that was me." Or I just
recognize that I made a bad choice. That it was I who had made the choice. Me. Me. Me.
That usually does it!
But, if it is still hanging around……
3. I take a mental hammer and smash it! Haha! I literally do! Smash it into tiny pieces.
Why does it work?
But it does work!
Reaching toward a better life is an exceptional thing to do. That alone puts you on the path to living the life of an ARTIST. How many people are willing to put in the work to understand, duplicate and apply the steps it takes to truly see life through their own eyes?
Some of you might start this journey and become a bit bummed that you feel so far away from living a life of happiness, success, and fulfillment, but the fact that you keep coming back means you are already in a better place than before. You have taken step 1. You have Accepted A Challenge!
The most beautiful part of it all is that it's not just me who is here for you, it’s every one of our readers. We are all on this adventure together.
It is never too late to create the life you have always wanted.
