HOW TO DISCOVER YOUR PURPOSE

Updated: Mar 23, 2023

FIND YOUR PATH TO HAPPINESS, SUCCESS, & FULFILLMENT

Last week, we went over the importance of knowing your purpose and what it has to do with living a happy, successful, and fulfilling life. You can check that blog post out here. When you get back we’ll be here waiting for you!

Okay, today we’re going to dive right into Discovering Your Purpose.

A quick recap: Your purpose is like your GPS in your car. It knows your final destination. It has been programmed in and when you go off course it lets you know, and even more amazingly, it tries to get you back on track. Your purpose is that tiny voice in your head or that upset stomach or whatever indicator it takes on in your life; guiding you towards a happy, successful, and fulfilling life. You were born with it, so let's locate it and use it!

Today we are activating your GPS!

As a note, it is important to remember that when doing this exercise that you are focusing on all that is good and wonderful about you. Short of you being Satan, your purpose will most likely be to help others and not to destroy them. : )

So, this is how we’re going to do this. I’m going to give you an overview of the questions that will guide you toward uncovering your purpose, then I’ll give you an example of how they could be answered in an imaginary conversation, and then I’ll ask the questions to you.

Yay! This is so exciting!

Okay, here we go!

1. Who are you?

2. What do you love?

3. What would you love to accomplish? Goals you have?

4. How do you think others describe you?

5. What kind of effects do you want to create on others?

6. Are you, in your everyday life, creating those effects now?

7. If yes, what have you done to create those effects?

8. How were others helped by those actions?

9. Do you feel the effect created is valuable?

10. What is your purpose?

Now that you’ve read the 10 questions, let’s see how an imaginary conversation regarding these questions might go.

Meet my imaginary friend, Chris.

Yay! Lovely story. Lovely purpose.

Now, it’s your turn!

Go and get a pad and pen. You'll want to write down your answers. It will help you to be able to review your answers. Go ahead. I'll wait.

Here we go.

1. Who are you?

Tell me a bit about who you are. (Just the basics like where you are from, kids, age, etc. (No need to overthink this. )

2. What do you love?

Take your time. List as many things you can think of, even if it is 100 things.

3. What goals would you love to accomplish?

Here are your goals in all areas of your life from career to personal to religious to health.

4. How would others describe you?

(Think of positive notes you have received or evaluations written. In fact, go and ask someone.) Remember, we’re looking for your positive attributes.

5. What kinds of effects would you like to create on others?

(List as many as you can think of.)

6. Have you have accomplished the above effects on others?

7. What have you done in your everyday life to create those effects?

i.e. how do you make people laugh or how do you make people smile. What is it that you do?

8. How does it help others?

(Take an honest look at the effect it creates on them.)

9. Do you believe that effect is valuable?

10. What is your purpose?

Yay! I can’t wait to hear all about it! If you feel you haven’t really nailed it down, that’s okay. Stay tuned. There is much more to come to help you refine and soften the edges. This road to becoming an ARTIST requires a bit of elbow grease, but in the end when you see that life is as beautiful as you knew it could be, it is all worth it!

Next week, we will address how to utilize knowing your purpose in your day to day life.
